Alan Watts:
You can't go wrong by kicking things off with Alan Watts. Here's a contemporary updating of some of his main ideas:
http://boingboing.net/2016/12/24/are-you-really-the-universe-it.html
And here's a whole section of Alan Watts. Alan Watts was an amazingly prolific and insightful popularizer of various Eastern traditions including Buddhism, Zen, Taoism, and Hinduism. You can see him reappear in every spiritual popularizer since then, including Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, etc, etc. These are all of the branches that grew from the trunk of Watts. Of course, Watts himself would be the first to admit that his trunk was sitting on roots that were ancient, wide, and deep. True wisdom is timeless, placeless, and personality-less. Know that Watts would likely not approve of many of the commercials that precede his lectures:

All religions are man's attempts to understand. True understanding, and reality itself, undoubtedly lie beyond the various stories and traditions of the different religions. Here are some more speculation regarding Christianity's ties to Hinduism. Religions certainly did borrow from each other, but Christianity no doubt has a very distinct origin from that of Hinduism, in contrast to this video. Nonetheless, the world is full of parallels and archetypes:

Now that Alan Watts and Krishnamurti are gone, not to mention the Buddha and a hundred other teachers, Eckhart Tolle is taking up the teachings for the modern world.
